About the Unicorn PCB

Unicorn is an open source STM32 PCB design by yanghu, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 268.2 × 110.5 mm, with 142 components from 35 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F411CCUx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC6206PxxxMR and SRV05-4. By type, the board carries 55 diodes, 44 relays, 16 capacitors, 9 resistors, 6 connectors and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A one-piece 40% ortho keyboard design inspired by crkbd, Kyria and Ferris.

This is the keyboard design files for my own use, inspired by crkbd, Kyria and Ferris, as well as Reviung41 and others.

The name means "uni(single-piece)corne".

Corne-style thumb cluster with extra inner key: I feel Kyria's thumb cluster is too much and the outer column is hard to reach for me. * Thumb cluster shifted 0.25u to the middle.

Unicorn: common questions

What microcontroller does the Unicorn use?

The Unicorn is built around the STM32F411CCUx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Unicorn PCB?

The Unicorn measures 268.2 × 110.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Unicorn?

142 components, from 35 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Unicorn design files?

From the yanghu/unicorne repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Unicorn design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which yanghu chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Unicorn without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
