About the Gingham PCB

Gingham is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by yiancar, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 285.8 × 123.8 mm, with 160 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP23008-E_P. By type, the board carries 71 switches, 66 diodes, 8 resistors, 5 capacitors, 3 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A 60% throughole keyboard inspired by the Plaid

The ANSI/ISO keyboard kit made using ONLY through hole components and inspired by the Plaid.

To alter the pcb use KiCAD V5.0 or newer as it already contains most of the libraries. The additional libraries are provided.

Gingham: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gingham use?

The Gingham is built around the ATMEGA328-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Gingham PCB?

The Gingham measures 285.8 × 123.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gingham?

160 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gingham design files?

From the yiancar/gingham_pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gingham design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Gingham without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
