About the ArmEncoderBoard PCB

ArmEncoderBoard is an open source PCB design by 01binary, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 34 × 34 mm, with 29 components from 15 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the SN74LVC2G17DBVR and AS5045B. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 diodes, 2 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A human-scale mech integrated with Robot Operating System

A custom board that simplifies mounting AS5045 hall-effect on-axis encoder with 12-bit resolution onto robot joints.

For 3.3V operation VDD5V and VDD3V3 are bridged and routed to VIN (3.3V). A single 100nF decoupling capacitor is placed at the bridge (close to the IC) to GND.

The following is documented in AS5045 specifications:

+ Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) with one-way communication, MOSI line not used + Compatible with SPI mode 1 (CPOL = 0, CPHA = 1) + Transfer begins when CSn is LOW + MSB-first, clocked data output

ArmEncoderBoard: common questions

How big is the ArmEncoderBoard PCB?

The ArmEncoderBoard measures 34 × 34 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ArmEncoderBoard?

29 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ArmEncoderBoard design files?

From the 01binary/str1ker repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ArmEncoderBoard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with 01binary. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
