Total redesign of the interface and 20 neopixels, still based on 8Bit Mixtape, but different...

8-Bit Algorithmic Audio Synthesizer with 5×4 NeoPixel Matrix Display

The ABK-20 is a modernized desktop hardware console redesign of the legendary 8Bit Mixtape. Powered by a Microchip ATtiny85 running an 8-bit algorithmic sound engine (bytebeats, wavetable, granular, and punk console synths), it features an illuminated 20-LED (5×4) visual display screen, tactile physical controls, and instant sound sketch loading via the AudioBoot bootloader.

ABK-20: common questions

What microcontroller does the ABK-20 use?

The ABK-20 is built around the ATTINY85-20SU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the ABK-20 PCB?

The ABK-20 has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ABK-20?

73 components, from 33 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ABK-20 design files?

From the 8BitMixtape/ABK-20 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ABK-20 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with 8BitMixtape. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ABK-20 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
