About the Theroof PCB

Theroof is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by a-wai, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 53.6 mm, with 18 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LT1301, GAL16V8 and GAL22V10. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 resistors, 1 module, 1 diode and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

GAL chip programmer for Arduino

theroof is a GAL chip programmer Arduino shield, based on the afterburner by ole00.

It uses a LT1301 in order to get rid of the MT3608 module, which requires a nasty hack to be used for this project.

Theroof: common questions

What microcontroller does the Theroof use?

The Theroof is built around the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Theroof PCB?

The Theroof measures 60 × 53.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Theroof?

18 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Theroof design files?

From the a-wai/theroof repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Theroof design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which a-wai chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Theroof without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
