A custom-made 4-key keyboard designed for 4K osu!mania

As the name suggest, this is a hackpad that is tuned for osu!mania (the keyboard rhythm game), and only has four keys!

Note: following image is still just the PCB, will update soon once the CAD is complete.

For some background, this is technically not my first hackclub project. I've circled the idea of following the Hackpad mission for some time now, and at the same time, I started playing the game osu!mania competitively, while using my laptop's keyboard. After one million taps on a single set of four keys, I finally decided to make one. Additionally, while my ThinkPad's keyboard is…

Osu mania-4k keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Osu mania-4k keyboard use?

The Osu mania-4k keyboard is built around the Module_XIAO-RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Osu mania-4k keyboard PCB?

The Osu mania-4k keyboard measures 100 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Osu mania-4k keyboard?

24 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Osu mania-4k keyboard design files?

From the abieprGithub/osu-mania-4k-keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Osu mania-4k keyboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which abieprGithub chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Osu mania-4k keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
