About the Retropie hat-2L

Retropie hat-2L is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by abrugsch, published on GitHub under the MPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 32.3 mm, with 17 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the DMG2305UX, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 2 transistors, 2 capacitors, 2 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts, audio and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

a simple (not a) hat to breakout control panel pins and I2S for a retropie installation

Just a tarted up Raspberry pi GPIO breakout and grouping board aimed at making retropie control panels easier.. no party tricks except for 5v power input.

There are both 4-layer and 2-layer versions of this PCB so in most PCB fabs, you will get merrily rogered for the privilege of those extra 2 layers. There is one fab that doesn't, this is not an advert so I'm not going to say which (unless you ask me) but if you've spent any time having PCB's made, you probably know which one it is. If you want the 2 layer version then go ahead and get the gerbers from the /2-layer folder. If you want to…

Retropie hat-2L: common questions

What microcontroller does the Retropie hat-2L use?

The Retropie hat-2L is built around the DMG2305UX, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Retropie hat-2L?

The Retropie hat-2L measures 65 × 32.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.62 mm thick.

How many components are on the Retropie hat-2L?

17 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Retropie hat-2L design files?

From the abrugsch/retropie-minicade-hat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Retropie hat-2L design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MPL-2.0 license, which abrugsch chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Retropie hat-2L without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
