About the TINYLED PCB

TINYLED is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by adaand00, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 22 mm, with 20 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny412-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP73831-2-OT. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 diodes, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 switches and 1 connector.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

This is a simple project to make a light-up stand for laser-cut acrylic signs. I mainly did this as an excercise in using the attiny10-series of microcontrollers. They are very limited with just 512 or 1024 bytes of flash and 32 bytes RAM. The final code is just under 500 bytes, of which half is for driving the LEDs.

TINYLED: common questions

What microcontroller does the TINYLED use?

The TINYLED is built around the ATtiny412-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the TINYLED PCB?

The TINYLED measures 100 × 22 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TINYLED?

20 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TINYLED design files?

From the adaand00/TINYLED repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TINYLED design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which adaand00 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the TINYLED without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
