About the Rp2040-keypad PCB

Rp2040-keypad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by adrianuseb, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 48.1 × 46.8 mm, with 32 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and W25Q128JVS. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 6 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

From the project

This project was made as a learning experience on how to design a MCU-based PCB with minimum components. It is a 2-key Keypad based on Raspberry RP2040 MCU. It doesn't have any button to enter bootmode, and no LED indicator. Simplicity was the main target.

This board was designed with KiCad. It is a 4 layer board with signal on the outer layer and power on the inner layer. It has serial wire pin-hole to debugging and a USB-C header for connection to the host and power. The switches used for the key are mechanical switches and they are connected to GPIO6 and GPIO7. The other end of the switch…

Rp2040-keypad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rp2040-keypad use?

The Rp2040-keypad is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Rp2040-keypad PCB?

The Rp2040-keypad measures 48.1 × 46.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rp2040-keypad?

32 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rp2040-keypad design files?

From the adrianuseb/rp2040-keypad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rp2040-keypad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with adrianuseb. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Rp2040-keypad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
