About the Kicad Smart Watch PCB

Kicad Smart Watch is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by AFLProjects, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 36.4 × 29.4 mm, with 48 components from 36 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4QFN, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the DS3231M, USB-AB and TPS62840DLCR. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 15 capacitors, 6 diodes, 4 ICs, 2 transistors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the wearables and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

DIY Smart Watch with ATMEGA32U4 , ST7789 SPI display and RV3028-C7 Extreme Low Power RTC Module

The project is an MCU based smartwatch. The MCU which is used is the ATMEGA32U4. The whole project is powered with the 3.7V 380mAh LQ-S1 lithium battery. I am also using an TFT 240 x 240 IPS ST7789 display with SPI. And the RV-3028-C7 Extreme Low Power RTC Module with I2C. In future revisions, an accelerometer will be added.

Kicad Smart Watch: common questions

What microcontroller does the Kicad Smart Watch use?

The Kicad Smart Watch is built around the ATMEGA32U4QFN, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Kicad Smart Watch PCB?

The Kicad Smart Watch measures 36.4 × 29.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.2 mm thick.

How many components are on the Kicad Smart Watch?

48 components, from 36 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Kicad Smart Watch design files?

From the AFLProjects/DIY-Smart-Watch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Kicad Smart Watch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AFLProjects. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Kicad Smart Watch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
