About the Nixie clock PCB

Nixie clock is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by alx-alexpark, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 168.8 × 95.8 mm, with 73 components from 41 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PicoW, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the UCC3803, K155NA1 and EL817S1(C)(TU)-F. By type, the board carries 22 resistors, 19 capacitors, 9 ICs, 9 diodes, 3 transistors and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

ИН-12 Nixie Tube Clock built with Pico W and k155id1

A nixie tube clock made using ИН-12 (IN-12) tubes. Uses k155id1 drivers and a boost converter made using this reference design. Time is synchronized over WiFi using NTP (<1sec inaccuracy), and all firmware is written using CircuitPython.

Nixie clock: common questions

What microcontroller does the Nixie clock use?

The Nixie clock is built around the PicoW, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Nixie clock PCB?

The Nixie clock measures 168.8 × 95.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Nixie clock?

73 components, from 41 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Nixie clock design files?

From the alx-alexpark/nixie-clock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Nixie clock design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with alx-alexpark. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Nixie clock without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
