About the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor PCB

Laptop-Slouching-Monitor is an open source ESP32 PCB design by AndrewMinWu, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33 × 33.7 mm, with 16 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the AP2112K-3.3, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 5 capacitors, 2 ICs and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom ESP32 PCB using a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor to accurately monitor distance from a laptop screen. Used to trigger a desktop popup whenever someone slouches.

Assembly:** Hand-soldered all parts and tested the board with a multimeter (checking continuity with the implemented testpoints) before flashing firmware.

Enclosure:** 3D printing a case to mount the PCB to the top of my monitor, using Fusion 360

Laptop-Slouching-Monitor: common questions

What microcontroller does the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor use?

The Laptop-Slouching-Monitor is built around the AP2112K-3.3, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor PCB?

The Laptop-Slouching-Monitor measures 33 × 33.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor?

16 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor design files?

From the AndrewMinWu/Laptop-Slouching-Monitor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AndrewMinWu. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Laptop-Slouching-Monitor without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
