About the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube PCB
Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by AndrzejKalinowski, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63 × 63 mm, with 20 components from 11 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 4 transistors, 2 connectors, 2 capacitors, 1 module and 1 switch.
It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.
From the project
4x4x4 LED cube built on a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 — custom KiCad PCB, SolidWorks mechanicals, and a web control UI served from the cube's own USB drive, no software install needed.
- Designing and fabricating a 4x4x4 multiplexed LED cube - Simple, well-documented project - Eventually a custom PCB - Mechanical and electronics project - Firmware development
The PCB connects the Pico 2 to the hand-soldered LED cube. The LED columns are driven directly from GPIO pins (only one LED is lit at a time), while the layers are switched through N-MOSFETs. A tactile button is added as a 'user interface'. An AUX header exposing GP0/GP1 is provided for future expansion, like sensors. There is also a power-in connector (feeding VSYS), but USB power should be sufficient. The board was…

Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube: common questions
What microcontroller does the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube use?
The Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube PCB?
The Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube measures 63 × 63 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube?
20 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube design files?
From the AndrzejKalinowski/cubeeee_4x4x4_led_cube repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which AndrzejKalinowski chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Cubeeee 4x4x4 led cube without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
