About the 12-key hackpad PCB

12-key hackpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Anycircle11139s, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 79 × 99.4 mm, with 42 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SK6812MINI-E, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MOUDLE-SEEEDUINO-XIAO. By type, the board carries 24 diodes, 16 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the displays & leds and keyboards designs in this gallery.

This is my PCB design, after creating the schematic, I imported it into the pcb editor and arranged the parts, which was pretty easy. But then I had to do the wiring, I started from the top and went down but it was extremely annoying and mind-numbing, finally, after a while, I managed to complete it. I have so many vias... :( I also had a bit of trouble fitting it into the 100 by 100 millimetre pcb size limit, but I barely made it.

12-key hackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the 12-key hackpad use?

The 12-key hackpad is built around the SK6812MINI-E, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the 12-key hackpad PCB?

The 12-key hackpad measures 79 × 99.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 12-key hackpad?

42 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 12-key hackpad design files?

From the Anycircle11139s/12-key-hackpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 12-key hackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Anycircle11139s. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 12-key hackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
