About the Split keyboard PCB

Split keyboard is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Anycircle11139s, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 267.4 × 131.4 mm, with 106 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 50 switches, 50 diodes, 2 ICs and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

I created a split keyboard, because I really enjoyed making the hackpad and I spend a lot of time on my computer and don't wanna get carpal tunnel. I spent a really long time making the split keyboard and it's a bit basic, but I like it.

Here, I have the case, I'm pretty proud of it because there was no tutorial and I had to wing it, but it still turned out pretty well.

Split keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Split keyboard use?

The Split keyboard is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Split keyboard PCB?

The Split keyboard measures 267.4 × 131.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Split keyboard?

106 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Split keyboard design files?

From the Anycircle11139s/split-keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Split keyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Anycircle11139s. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Split keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
