About the MiniSolarMesh PCB
MiniSolarMesh is an open source PCB design by aresta, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 45 × 57.7 mm, with 43 components from 26 distinct parts.
Other key parts include the CN3791, XB8089D0, TLV803EA29 and HT-RA62. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 12 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 transistors, 3 diodes and 2 connectors.
It belongs with the power & battery and rf & radio designs in this gallery.
From the project
Minimal LORA Solar Node with MPPT charger, Voltage supervisor and Battery protection
It prevents that the NRF52 gets blocked when the battery is low not being able to reboot when the sun is back. It is also good for the battery life.
To minimize the voltage drop across Q1, it is driven by the CHRG pin of the CN3791. This pin is low while the device is charging, switching on the mosfet completely. During the night the CHRG pin is high and the mosfet is off, blocking the reverse current. It is more efficient than a schottky diode or even a basic ideal diode.
