About the PotatoPad PCB

PotatoPad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by AsphyxiaUwO, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 81 × 45.2 mm, with 6 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 4 switches, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

This is a 4-key macropod with a 0.91-inch OLED display. It is also my submission for HackPad and the Highway to Undercity hackathon. I have never worked with circuitry before, so this was a great first-time experience with KiCad. I am sure I learned a lot with this project. I have used CAD software like Onshape previously, so I attempted to create a more complex case in compensation for the rather boring PCB design. I mount the screws through the bottom and place the heatset inserts on the top so that I do not let the screw stick out.

PotatoPad: common questions

What microcontroller does the PotatoPad use?

The PotatoPad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the PotatoPad PCB?

The PotatoPad measures 81 × 45.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PotatoPad?

6 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PotatoPad design files?

From the AsphyxiaUwO/PotatoPad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PotatoPad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AsphyxiaUwO. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the PotatoPad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
