About the Driver PCB
Driver is an open source NXP PCB design by augustt198, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 54.6 × 127 mm, with 62 components from 12 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the Teensy3.2, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the MCP23017, LM7815CT and LF50ABDT-TR. By type, the board carries 44 transistors, 9 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 capacitors and 3 resistors.
It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.
From the project
Flipdot display driver circuit
A driver board for my 16x28 flipdot display (Luminator MAX 3000).
The connector folder has a PCB for converting the 3x32 connector on the display to a 2x32 connector (which is easier to find cables for).
The driver folder has the driver board. Ideally I would like a footprint that fits both a teensy and an ESP2866.
- 15V is a good voltage to flip the dots, 50mA seems like enough current.

Driver: common questions
What microcontroller does the Driver use?
The Driver is built around the Teensy3.2, from the NXP family.
How big is the Driver PCB?
The Driver measures 54.6 × 127 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Driver?
62 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Driver design files?
From the augustt198/flipdot repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Driver design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with augustt198. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Driver without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
