About the Boathub PCB

Boathub is an open source ESP32 PCB design by behringer24, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 134.6 × 91.4 mm, with 54 components from 32 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-N16R8-DevKit_01x22_Socket_left, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the PC817 and R-78K5.0-1.0. By type, the board carries 22 resistors, 13 connectors, 12 capacitors, 3 diodes, 2 ICs and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, rf & radio and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A BoatHub remote sailboat monitor based on ESP32 DevKit microcontroller hardware and KiCad board layout

Boat monitoring, SeaTalk1 gateway, track logger and NMEA2000 groundwork, built around an ESP32-S3 N16R8.

A permanently powered ESP32 system monitors the boat in the marina, provides its own on-board Wi-Fi, pushes measurements over an outbound TLS connection to a self-hosted Docker server, and is later extended into a gateway for SeaTalk1, autopilot control, track logging and NMEA2000.

Boathub: common questions

What microcontroller does the Boathub use?

The Boathub is built around the ESP32-S3-N16R8-DevKit_01x22_Socket_left, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Boathub PCB?

The Boathub measures 134.6 × 91.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Boathub?

54 components, from 32 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Boathub design files?

From the behringer24/boathub repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Boathub design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with behringer24. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Boathub without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
