About the Modular navigator PCB

Modular navigator is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Bhaveshcoding, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a board, with 9 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S2-WROVER, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TPS76930. By type, the board carries 5 ICs, 3 buzzers and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Modular Navigator is a portable assistive navigation device that provides directional haptic feedback for obstacle awareness.

Modular Navigator is a portable assistive navigation device that provides directional haptic feedback for obstacle awareness.

The system uses four HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors to monitor the area around the user. Distance measurements are processed by an ESP32, which activates vibration motors corresponding to the detected obstacle direction.

Unlike audio-based navigation aids, the device uses vibration feedback, allowing users to remain aware of surrounding sounds while receiving environmental information.

Modular navigator: common questions

What microcontroller does the Modular navigator use?

The Modular navigator is built around the ESP32-S2-WROVER, from the ESP32 family.

How many components are on the Modular navigator?

9 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Modular navigator design files?

From the Bhaveshcoding/modular_navigator repository on GitHub, which has the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Modular navigator design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Bhaveshcoding chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Modular navigator without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
