About the Controller PCB

Controller is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by bieber, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 90 × 65 mm, with 38 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 5 diodes, 4 capacitors, 2 connectors, 1 IC and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

CapyTimer is meant to be a simple timer for boxing/kickboxing/grappling/fitness. My goal is to keep its interface as simple as possible while maintaining the most important functionality. Work and rest times are set with dials, and the timing started and stopped with a switch or button. The display counts the remaining time, the current round, and nothing else.

Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Controller use?

The Controller is built around the ATMEGA328P-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Controller PCB?

The Controller measures 90 × 65 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Controller?

38 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Controller design files?

From the bieber/capytimer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which bieber chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
