Board Folk Retro Keyboards and Adapters

A keyboard interface for the Acorn Electron based on C64keyboard by Robert VanHazinga using an ATMEGA328 and an MT8816 switch chip. This is a surface mount board designed to fit inside the Electron's case with the original keyboard still connected. The PS/2 socket sits a the hole of the original UHF modulator - requires the modulator to be removed for fitting.

Electron-PS2Slim: common questions

What microcontroller does the Electron-PS2Slim use?

The Electron-PS2Slim is built around the ATmega328P-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Electron-PS2Slim PCB?

The Electron-PS2Slim measures 81.1 × 33.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Electron-PS2Slim?

39 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Electron-PS2Slim design files?

From the Board-Folk/keys repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Electron-PS2Slim design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Board-Folk. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Electron-PS2Slim without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
