About the BBC-PS2 PCB

BBC-PS2 is an open source PCB design by Board-Folk, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 91.4 × 100.5 mm, with 36 components from 20 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74LS163, 74LS251, 7445, 74LS30 and MT8816 Socket. By type, the board carries 14 diodes, 7 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 capacitors, 3 connectors and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the keyboards and retro computing designs in this gallery.

Board Folk Retro Keyboards and Adapters

A PS/2 and USB keyboard interface for the BBC Model B/B+ based on C64keyboard by Robert VanHazinga using an Arduino type board and an MT8816 switch chip. This is the original throughhole board. This is easier to build than the surface mount version. It currently won't work with the original BBC keyboard connected. The PS/2 configuration is for Arduino Nano, the USB, Seeeduino XIAO, same as the original project. The XIAO does take a few seconds to boot and recognise the keyboard, it's not as quick as the Atmega version. For Nano, you may need to toggle Arduino IDE between processor ATmega328P…

BBC-PS2: common questions

How big is the BBC-PS2 PCB?

The BBC-PS2 measures 91.4 × 100.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BBC-PS2?

36 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BBC-PS2 design files?

From the Board-Folk/keys repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BBC-PS2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Board-Folk. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
