About the Softy PCB

Softy is an open source PCB design by Broosky, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 38 components from 24 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM393. By type, the board carries 16 resistors, 5 connectors, 4 diodes, 4 capacitors, 3 transistors and 2 fuses.

It belongs with the audio and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

A custom supercapacitor soft starter controlled by an ATX power supply for high-current applications.

Softy is a project I designed and built to enhance my home stereo system by integrating a 12V supercapacitor for improved transient power response.

In the late 2000s (around 2008), I ran a car head unit (40W × 4) along with a 600W sub amplifier as my primary home stereo. The system was powered by an ATX power supply, with all 12V rails and grounds tied together. The remote turn-on line was connected to 12V, so the system powered up automatically with the supply.

Softy: common questions

How many components are on the Softy?

38 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Softy design files?

From the Broosky/Softy repository on GitHub, which has the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Softy design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Broosky. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
