About the Hw-USB-I2C PCB

Hw-USB-I2C is an open source ESP32 PCB design by burgrp, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 18 mm, with 26 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LM1117MP-3.3. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 8 resistors, 3 crystals, 3 connectors, 2 ICs and 1 diode.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

USB-I2C bridge

USB to I2C bridge implemented on ESP32-C3FN4 MCU.

- Serial to I2C interface - Alert line - 3.3V, 5V power supply - Simple serial protocol - Implemented in MicroPython - Designed in KiCAD

All connectors have the same pin-out as follows.

1. GND 2. SCL 3. SDA 4. +3.3 V 5. +5V 6. ALERT (IRQ)

For Node.js there is a library i2c-js published on NPM as @burgrp/i2c.

The bridge is controlled through serial port by simple text protocol:

Hw-USB-I2C: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hw-USB-I2C use?

The Hw-USB-I2C is built around the ESP32-C3, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Hw-USB-I2C PCB?

The Hw-USB-I2C measures 60 × 18 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hw-USB-I2C?

26 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hw-USB-I2C design files?

From the burgrp/hw-USB-I2C repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hw-USB-I2C design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with burgrp. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hw-USB-I2C without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
