About the The nicholas van revision PCB

The nicholas van revision is an open source STM32 PCB design by calvin-mcd, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 242.9 × 95.3 mm, with 54 components from 31 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F401CBUX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC6206PXXXMR, 74AHCT1G125, 74HC4051 and OPA350. By type, the board carries 22 resistors, 18 capacitors, 6 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 LEDs and 1 diode.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

EC (topre) PCB for trashman's vanagon

The Nicholas Van is an EC (topre) pcb for trashman's v4n4g0n keyboard. The pcb supports a both the 625U spacebar, and the split 275U, 225U spacebars. But each need their own respective plate. Some plate files can be found in the Production folder. Check the plate & hardware section beelow for what you will need. The pcb comes with a usb port by default, but supports a Daughterboard connector (either jst or pico). It also supports another 5pin Jst connector for the Rotary Encoder board from the Embrace.

The nicholas van revision: common questions

What microcontroller does the The nicholas van revision use?

The The nicholas van revision is built around the STM32F401CBUX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the The nicholas van revision PCB?

The The nicholas van revision measures 242.9 × 95.3 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.59 mm thick.

How many components are on the The nicholas van revision?

54 components, from 31 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the The nicholas van revision design files?

From the calvin-mcd/the-nicholas-van repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the The nicholas van revision design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the The nicholas van revision without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
