About the Row driver PCB

Row driver is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by CarlRaymond, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 80 components from 30 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ArduinoNanoR3, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TPIC6B595, TBD62783, WE-FDSM_DC/DC_5V, 4N25 and WeMos_mini. By type, the board carries 29 diodes, 24 resistors, 11 ICs, 7 connectors, 6 capacitors and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

KiCad project for drivers for Annax flip-dot display panels

This is a driver for Annax flipdot display panels, with an Arduino nano or ESP8266 (Wemos D1 Mini) controller.

The controller consists of a row driver PC board, which contains the microcontroller, and a column driver PC board. A span of panels can be any length. One row driver daisy chains to all the panels, and each panel has its own column driver. The row and column driver boards are connected together with a serial interface.

Row driver: common questions

What microcontroller does the Row driver use?

The Row driver is built around the ArduinoNanoR3, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Row driver PCB?

The Row driver measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Row driver?

80 components, from 30 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Row driver design files?

From the CarlRaymond/AnnaxFlipdotDriver repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Row driver design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with CarlRaymond. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Row driver without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
