About the Gain box psu PCB

Gain box psu is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by carmisergio, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 175 × 85 mm, with 60 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny412-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM7809, LM7909, 78L05 and 140817141310. By type, the board carries 18 capacitors, 11 diodes, 11 resistors, 6 connectors, 5 ICs and 3 transistors.

From the project

PCB designs and firmware for the Denon AVR-X1300W Pre-out mod

The scope of this project is adding line-level outputs to the Denon AVR-X1300W AV Receiver. This can be acheived by getting the low-level signals from the digital board of the receiver before they make their way to the power amp board.

The "Vampire PCB" is soldered directly to the digital board of the receiverr, and provides an 8-pin JST PH connector with the signals. A small length of shielded cable brings them to the back panel of the unit, where removing the AM/FM tuner unit provides a convenient place to mount a miniature circular connector.

Gain box psu: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gain box psu use?

The Gain box psu is built around the ATtiny412-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Gain box psu PCB?

The Gain box psu measures 175 × 85 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gain box psu?

60 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gain box psu design files?

From the carmisergio/denon-preout-mod repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gain box psu design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with carmisergio. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Gain box psu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
