About the BumWatch PCB

BumWatch is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by choicebuilds, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 44 × 44 mm, with 12 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_PRO_MINI, from the AVR/Arduino family.

It belongs with the wearables, dev boards & breakouts and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A beginner-friendly smartwatch to explore PCBs and microcontrollers, featuring various breakout boards soldered onto a 4-layer protoboard.

THIS WATCH CONSISTS ENTIRELY OF BREAKOUT BOARDS AND IN-HOUSE FABRICATED PCBs. I was unable to make this version work on a PCB due to voltage regulator issues. So, I switched to the protoboard. If you plan on replicating this project, please do yourself a favor and add a functional buck converter. I created a significantly improved version here: https://github.com/choicebuilds/JWatch

BumWatch: common questions

What microcontroller does the BumWatch use?

The BumWatch is built around the ARDUINO_PRO_MINI, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the BumWatch PCB?

The BumWatch measures 44 × 44 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.600198 mm thick.

How many components are on the BumWatch?

12 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BumWatch design files?

From the choicebuilds/BumWatch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BumWatch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with choicebuilds. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the BumWatch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
