About the PSX64 Adapter PCB
PSX64 Adapter is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Commodore-Bench, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40.5 × 19 mm, with 16 components from 12 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ATmega8-16AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP41100. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 4 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 diodes, 2 resistors and 1 crystal.
It belongs with the retro computing and audio designs in this gallery.
From the project
A joystick adapter for Playstation 2 controllers to connect to Commodore/Atari with DSUB9 connector.
A few years ago I discovered on the homepage of Synthetic Dreams the schematic and firmware for a very interesting joystick adapter. With this adapter you can play a game called Shredz64, which is modeled after the Guitar Hero game known from the Playstation 2. I personally didn’t even find that the interesting thing about it, but rather the fact that you could use it to connect the well-known PSX2 gamepads to the C64 for any other game.

PSX64 Adapter: common questions
What microcontroller does the PSX64 Adapter use?
The PSX64 Adapter is built around the ATmega8-16AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the PSX64 Adapter PCB?
The PSX64 Adapter measures 40.5 × 19 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the PSX64 Adapter?
16 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the PSX64 Adapter design files?
From the Commodore-Bench/PSX64_Adapter_for_C64 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the PSX64 Adapter design in my own project?
It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
Can I test firmware for the PSX64 Adapter without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
