About the Coax-Switch-Controller PCB

Coax-Switch-Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by custom-ds, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 118 × 83 mm, with 129 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SPX-18018, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the 74HC238 and LM1085-5.0. By type, the board carries 48 resistors, 25 diodes, 24 transistors, 16 inductors, 9 capacitors and 4 ICs.

It belongs with the rf & radio, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Wifi-enabled controller to select two radios between six antenna outputs.

A WiFi-enabled coax antenna switch controller for amateur radio stations. It allows two radios to select one of six antennas each, with relay control driven by a custom PCB and an ESP32-based controller. The system supports both a front-panel interface and a built-in web UI / REST API.

This project is designed to let a station operator:

- switch each radio between up to six antenna outputs - optionally disconnect a radio from all antennas - control the switch from the local front panel using a rotary knob and LCD - control the switch from a browser or automation client over WiFi - retain…

Coax-Switch-Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Coax-Switch-Controller use?

The Coax-Switch-Controller is built around the SPX-18018, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Coax-Switch-Controller PCB?

The Coax-Switch-Controller measures 118 × 83 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Coax-Switch-Controller?

129 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Coax-Switch-Controller design files?

From the custom-ds/Coax-Switch-Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Coax-Switch-Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which custom-ds chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Coax-Switch-Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
