About the Soraben PCB

Soraben is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by danielkent-net, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85 × 38 mm, with 36 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico_W, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the TPS56339DDC. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 9 capacitors, 5 connectors, 4 diodes, 2 transistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

More information on Soraben can be found on my website.

This repository contains the KiCad design files, bill of materials, and 3D printable enclosure for Soraben.

Detailed fabrication and assembly instructions can be found in ASSEMBLY.md.

I had my bare Soraben PCBs fabricated at OSH Park. To order at OSH Park, upload pcb/soraben.kicadpcb` to the OSH Park website and follow their instructions.

Soraben: common questions

What microcontroller does the Soraben use?

The Soraben is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico_W, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Soraben PCB?

The Soraben measures 85 × 38 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Soraben?

36 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Soraben design files?

From the danielkent-net/soraben repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Soraben design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which danielkent-net chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Soraben without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
