About the Board withoutEncoder

Board withoutEncoder is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by DaniMzT, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 91 × 94.5 mm, with 38 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the NodeMCU_1.0_(ESP-12E), from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the LM3940IT-3.3, LM2575-5.0BT, LP324N and ADS1115_ADC_Module. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 8 connectors, 6 diodes, 4 ICs, 4 capacitors and 3 transistors.

It belongs with the sensors and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Monitoring sensors of an automated door (it can be extended to generic systems). University project

A NodeMCU is the main controller, acquiring the sensors data and sending the processed data via WiFi to a database (with a PHP file as a bridge). There is an Arduino UNO for the acquisition of position, speed (both acquired with a home-made encoder: 2 micro photosensors, emitting to and receiving from a zebra band on the door) and limit switch activations (for door cycles). The communication between NodeMCU and Arduino UNO is via SoftwareSerial --> not very reliable, it is the main issue to be fixed. Database and website: based on Bitnami WAMP (package for Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP)

Board withoutEncoder: common questions

What microcontroller does the Board withoutEncoder use?

The Board withoutEncoder is built around the NodeMCU_1.0_(ESP-12E), from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Board withoutEncoder?

The Board withoutEncoder measures 91 × 94.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Board withoutEncoder?

38 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Board withoutEncoder design files?

From the DaniMzT/MonitoringSensorsAutomaticDoor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Board withoutEncoder design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with DaniMzT. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Board withoutEncoder without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
