About the Cs240lx-24spr PCB

Cs240lx-24spr is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by dddrrreee, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 66.9 × 46.6 mm, with 30 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RASPBERRY_PI_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the CP2102N-AXX-XQFN20 and NRF24L01. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 6 connectors, 6 capacitors, 5 diodes, 3 ICs and 1 transistor.

This lab is focused on designing printed circuit boards (PCBs), which you may find useful in your final project. This is moreso a quick lesson on how to replace your bundles of wires with a more reliable board, rather than how to actually design electrical circuits on a board which is a much more involved discussion.

Our goal is to create a board that can plug into the Raspberry Pi GPIO header and connect to the USB/UART converter and 2 NRFs. You can also optionally add other devices to the board of your choosing. My board looks something like this:

Cs240lx-24spr: common questions

What microcontroller does the Cs240lx-24spr use?

The Cs240lx-24spr is built around the RASPBERRY_PI_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Cs240lx-24spr PCB?

The Cs240lx-24spr measures 66.9 × 46.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Cs240lx-24spr?

30 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Cs240lx-24spr design files?

From the dddrrreee/cs240lx-24spr repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Cs240lx-24spr design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with dddrrreee. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Cs240lx-24spr without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
