From the project

Custom flip phone design and build — hardware, firmware, and mechanical

Designing and building a custom cell phone from scratch — hardware (PCB, electronics), embedded firmware, cellular communication, and eventually mechanical/enclosure design. Candybar / single-board form factor (locked 2026-08-16 — flip/clamshell deferred to v2). Long-term vision: the phone is the hub of a personal ecosystem of USB-connected devices. See docs/ref/problem-definition.md for full architecture, MVP, risks, and ecosystem vision.

Flip phone: common questions

What microcontroller does the Flip phone use?

The Flip phone is built around the STM32H743ZIT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Flip phone PCB?

The Flip phone measures 50 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Flip phone?

130 components, from 51 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Flip phone design files?

From the denglermoss/flip-phone repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Flip phone design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with denglermoss. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Flip phone without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
