Hardware PCB Design for AVR-based Datalogger using KiCAD

Custom ATmega328-AU data-logging PCB with external EEPROM, real-time clock, UART, I²C, ICSP, and expansion GPIO.

This project is a standalone embedded data-logging board designed around the ATmega328-AU. It combines nonvolatile storage, accurate timekeeping, programming access, serial communication, and general-purpose expansion on a custom PCB.

- Dedicated external EEPROM for data retention - Hardware RTC for timestamped records - Separate crystal domains for MCU and RTC timing - UART and I²C brought out for external integration - ICSP header for direct programming - Custom PCB with…

DataLogger-Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the DataLogger-Board use?

The DataLogger-Board is built around the ATMega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the DataLogger-Board?

The DataLogger-Board measures 50.8 × 35.6 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DataLogger-Board?

25 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DataLogger-Board design files?

From the DevMajed/DataLogger-Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DataLogger-Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with DevMajed. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the DataLogger-Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
