About the Tapecart sd vertical PCB

Tapecart sd vertical is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by djtersteegc, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 45.4 × 50 mm, with 33 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328P-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 4050 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 8 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 transistors and 2 jumpers.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

Vertical SMD PCB design and 3D printable case of the TapeCart SD for the Commodore 64

A respin of the Tapuino hardware design for Kim Jorgensen's Tapecart SD firmware that added SD support to Ingo Korb's original Tapecart project for the Commodore 64. My three design goals for this were:

1. Full sized SD card slot. 2. Physically anchor the edge connector so insertion/removal forces don't stress the solder joints like some of the other designs. 3. SMD to make it as compact as possible, but keep the board single sided and using larger 0805 components with hand solder footprints to make it easy to build.

Tapecart sd vertical: common questions

What microcontroller does the Tapecart sd vertical use?

The Tapecart sd vertical is built around the ATmega328P-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Tapecart sd vertical PCB?

The Tapecart sd vertical measures 45.4 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tapecart sd vertical?

33 components, from 26 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tapecart sd vertical design files?

From the djtersteegc/tapecart-sd-vertical repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tapecart sd vertical design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which djtersteegc chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Tapecart sd vertical without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
