About the RpiNixieBarGraphHat PCB

RpiNixieBarGraphHat is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by drkmsmithjr, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 30 mm, with 48 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_PI_Zero_Header, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the MCP6411. By type, the board carries 24 resistors, 9 capacitors, 4 transistors, 4 connectors, 4 diodes and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the displays & leds and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

A Hardware Hat for the Raspberry Pi Zero for control of IN-9 Bar Graph Nixie Tubes

This project as described in www.surfncircuits.com came about because I needed a retro looking linear meter for my espresso maker water tank. I’m always running out of water in my espresso maker, and a cool display letting me know how much water is left and to let me know when to fill it up is definitely needed. In this project, I’ll create a HAT for the Raspberry Pi that can drive two IN-9 or IN-13 linear Nixie tubes. While I’m using this HAT as a single water meter display, this same linear display would be great for showing temperature, bar graphs, audio VU meters, even surf heights by…

RpiNixieBarGraphHat: common questions

What microcontroller does the RpiNixieBarGraphHat use?

The RpiNixieBarGraphHat is built around the Raspberry_PI_Zero_Header, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the RpiNixieBarGraphHat PCB?

The RpiNixieBarGraphHat measures 65 × 30 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RpiNixieBarGraphHat?

48 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RpiNixieBarGraphHat design files?

From the drkmsmithjr/RpiNixieBarGraphHat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RpiNixieBarGraphHat design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which drkmsmithjr chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RpiNixieBarGraphHat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
