About the MHI-ESP PCB

MHI-ESP is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by dvisser, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 26 × 59.3 mm, with 21 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the LD1117S50TR. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 5 transistors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP8266 based WiFi module for MHI split-system air conditioners.

The "CNE" connection (between IR receiver board and the indoor unit control board) is to add features that are not accessible over the SPI connection on the "CNS" header (such as 3D Auto, some vane controls, etc).

This module is designed to run firmware developed jointly with TZB (thezerobeast) which is available here https://github.com/TheZeroBeast/ACWiFi

This PCB was designed and developed using KiCAD :-)

MHI-ESP: common questions

What microcontroller does the MHI-ESP use?

The MHI-ESP is built around the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the MHI-ESP PCB?

The MHI-ESP measures 26 × 59.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MHI-ESP?

21 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MHI-ESP design files?

From the dvisser/MHI-ESP-PCB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MHI-ESP design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which dvisser chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MHI-ESP without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
