About the Kim-1-programmable memory PCB

Kim-1-programmable memory is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by eduardocasino, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 107.5 × 75.4 mm, with 42 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PicoW, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the LVC04, 74LVC1G38, 74LVC541, 74LVC245 and 74LVC1G27. By type, the board carries 17 resistors, 11 capacitors, 8 ICs, 3 connectors, 1 transistor and 1 switch.

Thanks to Luciano Veronese, we now have a BOM and a component placement list for use with JLCPCB. They are under the docs folder.

Only the coaxial connector and the PicoW are missing, but they are very easy to solder.

Kim-1-programmable memory: common questions

What microcontroller does the Kim-1-programmable memory use?

The Kim-1-programmable memory is built around the PicoW, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Kim-1-programmable memory PCB?

The Kim-1-programmable memory measures 107.5 × 75.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.59 mm thick.

How many components are on the Kim-1-programmable memory?

42 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Kim-1-programmable memory design files?

From the eduardocasino/kim-1-programmable-memory-card repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Kim-1-programmable memory design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which eduardocasino chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Kim-1-programmable memory without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
