About the ChoCo PCB

ChoCo is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by enric0r, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 140.5 × 62.5 mm, with 22 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 10 switches, 10 diodes, 1 module and 1 connector.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

An RP2040 USB MIDI controller for playing scale-aware chords.

A USB MIDI chord controller built around a Raspberry Pi Pico.

Choose a scale, hold a degree key, and move the joystick to change the chord. ChoCo sends MIDI notes to a software instrument, DAW, or compatible MIDI host; the connected instrument produces the sound. The OLED shows the current chord and playing modes.

ChoCo: common questions

What microcontroller does the ChoCo use?

The ChoCo is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the ChoCo PCB?

The ChoCo measures 140.5 × 62.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ChoCo?

22 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ChoCo design files?

From the enric0r/ChoCo repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ChoCo design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the ChoCo without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
