About the Watto meter PCB

Watto meter is an open source ESP32 PCB design by esiealab, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 91.8 × 59.5 mm, with 34 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 6 capacitors, 4 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 switches and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Watto-Meter: An open-source USB-C power consumption meter with real-time measurements, data logging, and a web interface for control and monitoring.

The hardware for Watto-Meter is also open-source, created by @Hyrla. All the files required to manufacture the PCB and assemble the device are available in the hardware/ folder.

Below is an image of the Watto-Meter hardware:

To manufacture the PCB, you can use JLCPCB's fabrication service. Follow these steps:

1. Download the Gerber files: - The Gerber files required for fabrication are located in the hardware/ folder.

Watto meter: common questions

What microcontroller does the Watto meter use?

The Watto meter is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Watto meter PCB?

The Watto meter measures 91.8 × 59.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Watto meter?

34 components, from 23 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Watto meter design files?

From the esiealab/watto-meter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Watto meter design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which esiealab chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Watto meter without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
