About the Placa principal PCB
Placa principal is an open source ESP32 PCB design by F-Iglesias, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 60 mm, with 19 components from 14 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKITC-32D, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the step-down, LM7805_TO220 and L9110S. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 5 ICs, 4 resistors, 2 capacitors and 1 diode.
It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.
From the project
A self-balancing robot I made in 2023 as final project for my electronics technical program in high-school.
It balances itself with a PID control, measuring the angle
You can see a video of the robot moving here
For this prototype I designed a simpler encoder, but since it was not able to read the direction in which the wheels rotated, it was useless for its purpose, so I discarded that design.
Sadly I lost all the photos I had, but here are two videos:

Placa principal: common questions
What microcontroller does the Placa principal use?
The Placa principal is built around the ESP32-DEVKITC-32D, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Placa principal PCB?
The Placa principal measures 80 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Placa principal?
19 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Placa principal design files?
From the F-Iglesias/Balancin repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Placa principal design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with F-Iglesias. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Placa principal without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
