I wanted to create a highly compact and portable standalone environmental monitor that could provide accurate temperature and humidity readings without needing a host computer. I used the Seeed XIAO RP2040 for its small footprint and native CircuitPython support which made integration with the SSD1306 OLED and DHT22 sensor straightforward.

Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display: common questions

What microcontroller does the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display use?

The Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display PCB?

The Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display measures 84.8 × 23 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display?

4 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display design files?

From the firesareba/Desktop-Humidity-and-Temperature-sensor-and-display repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with firesareba. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Desktop-Humidity and-Temperature sensor and display without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
