About the Froskeys PCB

Froskeys is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by frosetrain, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 81 × 86.3 mm, with 30 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 10 switches, 9 LEDs, 9 diodes, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

9-key macropad

A 9-key macropad that I created for my own use-cases. I wanted some more keys next to my keyboard to do things like push-to-talk and other macros. Since my mouse is on the right of my laptop, my macropad shall sit on the left of my laptop.

There is a column of keys on the right of the macropad, to easily press with my pinky while my left hand is on WASD.

There is a diagonal cutout on the bottom left, where I can rest my hand more easily.

Froskeys: common questions

What microcontroller does the Froskeys use?

The Froskeys is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Froskeys PCB?

The Froskeys measures 81 × 86.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Froskeys?

30 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Froskeys design files?

From the frosetrain/froskeys repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Froskeys design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which frosetrain chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Froskeys without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
