About the ErgoDoxCustom PCB

ErgoDoxCustom is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by gennartan, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 182.8 × 158.9 mm, with 119 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350B-QFN80, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117-3.3_SOT223 and W25Q128JVS. By type, the board carries 47 resistors, 40 switches, 21 capacitors, 5 connectors, 3 ICs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

An ergodox-like keyboard using RP2350

This folder contains the KiCad projects and production outputs for the electronic part of the ErgoDox Custom split keyboard.

The RP2350 is clearly overkill for a keyboard controller. It was chosen intentionally as part of the project goal: learning more about KiCad, PCB design, and electronic development in general, rather than optimizing for the simplest possible keyboard hardware.

ErgoDoxCustom: common questions

What microcontroller does the ErgoDoxCustom use?

The ErgoDoxCustom is built around the RP2350B-QFN80, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the ErgoDoxCustom PCB?

The ErgoDoxCustom measures 182.8 × 158.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ErgoDoxCustom?

119 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ErgoDoxCustom design files?

From the gennartan/ergodox-rp2350 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ErgoDoxCustom design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with gennartan. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ErgoDoxCustom without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
