About the Onboard PCB

Onboard is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Georg-code, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 80 × 49 mm, with 50 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MS44SF1_V1.0, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the TPS63001. By type, the board carries 19 resistors, 10 capacitors, 6 diodes, 3 connectors, 2 ICs and 2 transistors.

From the project

An open source way to save lives. With a 3D printer and a simple circuit board, you can get started. This project is designed to be reliable and easy to use. It uses a single 18650 cell to power the Nordic Semiconductor SoC for up to 10 days. So you can go on your cruise without worrying about the anything!

Onboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Onboard use?

The Onboard is built around the MS44SF1_V1.0, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Onboard PCB?

The Onboard measures 80 × 49 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Onboard?

50 components, from 28 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Onboard design files?

From the Georg-code/onboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Onboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Georg-code. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Onboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
