About the Hackpad PCB

Hackpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by groberts822, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 97.8 × 65.1 mm, with 14 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 6 switches, 6 diodes and 1 IC.

It belongs with the displays & leds and keyboards designs in this gallery.

Custom 6-key macropad with a rotary encoder and OLED, designed using a custom PCB and 3D-printed case.

This is the PCB Note: SMD instead of DIP does not matter to me. If it ends up being to hard to solder, the kits (or I also have either way) come with the header pins to do it DIP instead of straight SMD, but I tend to prefer SMD even with the slight challenge.

Hackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hackpad use?

The Hackpad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Hackpad PCB?

The Hackpad measures 97.8 × 65.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hackpad?

14 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hackpad design files?

From the groberts822/Hackpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with groberts822. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
