About the Usb hid display PCB
Usb hid display is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by hackboxguy, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 59.3 × 30.5 mm, with 15 components from 9 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the RP2040-Zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SSD1306. By type, the board carries 5 switches, 5 capacitors, 2 ICs and 2 resistors.
It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.
From the project
A firmware for the mcu to acts as an usb-composite-device(hid-iput and ttyACMx serial device)
A firmware for Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040) that turns cheap off-the-shelf components (rotary encoder, push buttons, SSD1306 OLED) into a standalone USB micro-panel for embedded Linux devices.
This firmware creates a USB composite device with two interfaces:
- HID Mouse — The rotary encoder and directional buttons appear as a standard USB mouse to the host. A host-side daemon (such as micropanel) interprets the relative mouse movements as menu navigation: up, down, left, right, and select. - CDC Serial (/dev/ttyACMx) — The host writes binary commands over this serial port to control the…

Usb hid display: common questions
What microcontroller does the Usb hid display use?
The Usb hid display is built around the RP2040-Zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the Usb hid display PCB?
The Usb hid display measures 59.3 × 30.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6002 mm thick.
How many components are on the Usb hid display?
15 components, from 9 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Usb hid display design files?
From the hackboxguy/usb-hid-display repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Usb hid display design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which hackboxguy chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Usb hid display without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
