About the Double oh PCB

Double oh is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by heyspacebuck, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 49.2 × 9 mm, with 51 components from 31 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-PICO-D4, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MCP73831-2-OT, CP2104, TPS62400 and BD48KxxG. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 13 connectors, 8 capacitors, 5 ICs, 3 transistors and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the power & battery and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

A WiFi-enabled power supply in a AA battery form factor, designed for sex toys

This is the spiritual successor to the SMOL, a tiny PCB that interrupts battery output to make fun patterns. By designing around a 10mm-by-44mm LiPo cell, I've been able to add Wi-Fi connectivity, a USB connection for charging and programming, and a dangerous (but intriguing!) overvoltage mode.

The star of the show is the ESP32-PICO-D4, a 7mm-by-7mm powerhouse. It handles the wireless networking and various GPIOs.

Double oh: common questions

What microcontroller does the Double oh use?

The Double oh is built around the ESP32-PICO-D4, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Double oh PCB?

The Double oh measures 49.2 × 9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Double oh?

51 components, from 31 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Double oh design files?

From the heyspacebuck/double-oh repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Double oh design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which heyspacebuck chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Double oh without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
